How the Daggerheart Name Generator works

A Daggerheart name generator for fantasy heroes, sorted by the community they grew up in. In Daggerheart-style games, each character has both an ancestry and a community, and the community shapes how they speak and what they value. Pick a community and generate heroes, or generate a party name.

How the Daggerheart name generator works

Each of the nine communities has its own naming voice. Highborne names sound gilded. Loreborne surnames carry ink and pages. Orderborne characters take old virtue names. Ridgeborne names are short and stony, and Seaborne names are salty. Slyborne characters go by a nickname. Underborne names echo tunnels and lanterns. Wanderborne are named for the road, and Wildborne names come from leaves and roots. Where a name has a known meaning, it shows under the name.

    Ancestry and community together

Pick an ancestry first, then use the community to shape the name. An elf raised underground sounds different from one raised at court.

    FAQ

    What is a community?

A community is the culture a character grew up in, separate from their ancestry. It gives them skills and a way of seeing the world, and it is a great guide for choosing a name.

    Why sort names by community?

Names come from upbringing more than blood. A character raised by sailors or scholars carries that culture in their name, so community gives more flavour than ancestry alone.

How should a party be named?

Pair a humble or quirky adjective with a group word, like the Crooked Lanterns. Parties often name themselves after a shared moment, so a name with a story works best.

Can I use these in other fantasy games?

Yes. The names are original or common real names and fit any high fantasy game, whatever system you use, and the community styles work well for sorting NPCs in any fantasy world.
