How the Egyptian Mythology Name Generator works
An Egyptian mythology name generator for gods and goddesses, guardians of the underworld gates and deities in sacred animal form. Every name comes with a title, a domain or a gate, in the style of the temple inscriptions. Pick a kind and gender and generate as many as your pantheon needs.
How the Egyptian mythology name generator works
Egyptian divine names are often short descriptions. Nebet-hut, Nephthys, means lady of the house; Wadjet means the green one; Sekhmet means the powerful one. The generator imitates that by joining title prefixes, nebet (lady), neb (lord), merit (beloved), nefer (beautiful), sat (daughter), with short cores taken from the sound of the old names, and sometimes adding an ending such as -hotep (at peace) or -ankh (life). Egyptian was written without vowels, so the spellings follow the convention Egyptologists use for readability.
Titles and domains
Egyptian gods were addressed by their roles: lady of the sycamore, lord of the western desert, eye of Ra. Many gods were tied to one town or one landscape, the marsh, the cataract, the oasis. The generator gives each name a title and a place or domain, which is how a new god would appear on a temple wall.
Underworld gates and animal forms
The Book of Gates and the Book of the Dead describe the underworld as a sequence of gates and caverns, each with a guardian whose name must be spoken to pass. The Underworld guardian option gives a gate number and a deed, like "she who weighs the heart". The Sacred animal form option gives the lioness, ibis, jackal and falcon heads that make Egyptian gods instantly recognisable.

FAQ
Are these real Egyptian gods?
Most are generated, not historical, but they use the real title words and the sound of attested names. Egypt had hundreds of local and minor deities, so a new god of the salt lakes or the scribe's palette fits comfortably alongside the famous ones.
What do Nebet, Neb and Merit mean?
Neb means lord and nebet lady, as in Nebet-hut, lady of the house. Merit means beloved, nefer beautiful, sat daughter and sa son. Endings like -hotep mean at peace and -ankh life, so many results read like real Egyptian epithets.
Why do Egyptian gods have animal heads?
Egyptians saw divine qualities in animals: the protective fury of a lioness, the patience of an ibis, the jackal that haunted cemeteries. A god could appear in animal form or as a human with the animal's head. The generator pairs each animal form with a place to root it in a landscape.
Can I use these names in my game or book?
Yes. Ancient Egyptian religion is public domain and these names are generated. A few short cores are real names, such as Bast or Sobek, so if you want an entirely new deity, pick a result with a prefix and title attached.
