How the Fabula Ultima Name Generator works

A Fabula Ultima name generator for tabletop adventures in the style of classic Japanese RPGs. In Fabula Ultima-style games, a band of heroes crosses a colourful world, flies airships, gathers crystals and faces villains with dramatic monologues. Generate heroes, villains, airships, kingdoms and legendary weapons.

How the Fabula Ultima name generator works

Heroes get short, bright names that could appear on a JRPG save screen, Rikka or Soren Brightwind. Villains get grand names and dramatic titles, Malgorath, the Crystal Tyrant. Airships get soaring names like the Crimson Aurora. Kingdoms get European-flavoured names like Albaria. Weapons get legendary names and a title, since every JRPG has a final blade.

    Dramatic by design

JRPG stories love big emotions and bigger villains. Names can be a little over the top, and that is the point.

    Not affiliated

Fabula Ultima is a trademark of Need Games, created by Emanuele Galletto. This site is not affiliated with Need Games. All names here are original, and some first names are common real names.

    FAQ

What do JRPG names sound like?

Short, bright and easy to remember, often with a soft vowel ending, like Lune or Kiran. Surnames are rarer and usually sound heroic, which suits a party of young adventurers.

How should a villain be named?

Give them a heavy, sinister name and a grand title, like Veyna, Empress of Ash. JRPG villains are dramatic, so the name should sound like it belongs in a final boss fight.

    Why name airships and weapons?

Airships and legendary weapons are part of every JRPG journey. Naming them makes them characters in the story, and players remember them long after the campaign ends.

Can I use these in other JRPG-style games?

Yes. The names are original or common real names and fit any JRPG-inspired tabletop game, video game project or fantasy story, whatever system you use and whatever world you build.
