How the Fantasy Disease Name Generator works
This fantasy disease name generator makes names for plagues, curses and magical sicknesses in D&D and fiction: the Grey Rot, Bonewither, Ashlung, the Weeping Plague, Soulblight. Choose a folk name, a plague or a magical sickness. Every batch avoids duplicates.
How the fantasy disease name generator works
Before germ theory, people named diseases after what they saw. Consumption wasted the body, the sweating sickness brought sweats, St Anthony's Fire burned the skin and the Black Death left dark patches. Folk names here work the same way, a body part plus a symptom or a colour plus a sickness, giving Bonewither, Ashlung or the Pale Shakes.
Plagues and place fevers
Large outbreaks get grander names, often after a strange symptom or where they began. The dancing plague of 1518 really happened in Strasbourg, and many fevers were named after marshes and ports. Plague names like the Laughing Plague or Harbour Fever turn a sickness into an event the whole setting remembers.
Magical sicknesses
Magic gives you diseases no physician knows: mana rot from overusing spells, soulblight from undead touch, dream fever from fey meddling. They make good plot hooks, since the cure is a quest rather than a potion. A cure might come from the fantasy potion name generator, and a dark source from the hag name generator.

FAQ
How do I use a disease in a D&D campaign?
Give it a clear symptom, a way it spreads and a rumoured cure. Sight the symptom early, in a beggar's cough or a village with shuttered windows, so the name means something when the party finally hears it. A cure that needs a rare ingredient turns the disease into a quest.
Should a fantasy disease have more than one name?
Real diseases often do. Common folk might call it the Grey Rot while healers write about "Marrow Wither" and foreigners blame it on the neighbouring country. Using several names shows who is talking and how far the sickness has spread.
Are these names based on real diseases?
Some follow real naming habits, like naming fevers after marshes or plagues after symptoms, but the names themselves are invented. They avoid real illnesses so you can decide how your disease works without matching medical facts.
