How the Fey Name Generator works
A fey name generator for D&D and fantasy games. The fey are the old, capricious folk of the wild places and the courts beyond them, and each kind names itself differently: archfey take titles, hags take homely names with a sting, satyrs sound merry, dryads take their tree, and eladrin take their season. Pick a kind or mix them all.
How the fey name generator works
Each kind of fey has its own patterns. Archfey names are courtly: a court, a title and a realm, or a flowing elven-sounding name with an adjective that warns you what they are like, the Fickle or the Many-Masked. Hag names sound like a kindly old neighbour until you notice the word, Granny Wormwood, Auntie Bitterroot. Satyr names are Greek-flavoured and cheerful with a nickname about wine or music. Dryad names grow from the tree the dryad is bound to, ash, willow, rowan, and often say which grove. Eladrin names follow the elven sound and add the season the eladrin currently belongs to.
Why fey names matter
In folklore, names have power among the fey. A fey who gives you a name is often giving a false one, and knowing a true name can bind them. That makes fey names a good plot hook: the name the players hear may not be the real one.

FAQ
What is the difference between fey and fairies?
Fairies are one small, winged kind of fey. The fey as a whole include archfey, hags, satyrs, dryads, eladrin, pixies and more. For tiny winged folk, the site's fairy and pixie name generators are a better fit; this page covers the wider fey courts.
What should an archfey be called?
Something grand and a little unsettling. Archfey rule their own realms and love titles, so a name like the Thorn Countess or Aelwyn, Queen of the Endless Dusk works. Give them an adjective that hints at their bargains, since warlocks will want to know.
Why are hag names so homely?
Hags hide cruelty behind familiarity. Calling themselves Granny or Auntie makes villagers trust them, and a plant or household word like Nettle or Mildew keeps the name earthy. The contrast between the cosy name and the monster is the fun of playing one.
Do eladrin change their names with the seasons?
Eladrin change mood and season, so the generator attaches a season court or a seasonal surname rather than changing the given name. You can keep the given name and swap the season when your eladrin character shifts from winter to spring.
