How the Final Fantasy-style Name Generator works
A Final Fantasy name generator for heroes with jobs, villains with grand titles, summons and airships. Names mix the Western, fantasy and sci-fi flavour that runs through the series, with jobs like Dragoon and Red Mage and summons in the style of Eidolons and Primals. Pick a kind and gender and start your own Final Fantasy party.
How the Final Fantasy name generator works
Final Fantasy names come from many sources: Latin and astronomy (Noctis, Lucis, Rinoa), mythology (Bahamut, Odin, Leviathan), and European given names (Terra, Celes, Edgar). Heroes often have a short first name and a surname, and in many games are defined by a job. The generator pairs a hero name and surname, and often adds one of the classic jobs from Warrior of Light to Blue Mage. Villains get sharp, strange names like Kefka and Sephiroth, with a title to match.
Summons and airships
Summons are the great creatures of the series, called Espers, Aeons, Guardian Forces, Eidolons or Primals depending on the game, and named from myth: Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, Bahamut. The generator makes new mythic names with a title and an element. Airships are the other constant, from the Highwind to the Ragnarok, and every Cid seems to own one. The Airship option gives a name worthy of the ship's deck.
Using the names
These names suit Final Fantasy OCs, fan fiction, Final Fantasy XIV roleplay and JRPG-inspired games. The lists include some familiar names for flavour, so pair them with a new surname or job for an original character. This site is not affiliated with Square Enix.
FAQ
What are the classic Final Fantasy jobs?
The core jobs include Warrior, Monk, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage and Red Mage from the first game, with later additions like Dragoon, Paladin, Dark Knight, Summoner, Blue Mage, Time Mage, Samurai, Ninja, Bard, Dancer and Machinist. The generator can attach any of them to a hero.
What are summons called in different Final Fantasy games?
They go by many names: Espers in VI, Guardian Forces in VIII, Aeons in X, Eidolons in IV, IX and XIII, Primals in XIV, and Astrals in XV. They are almost always named after figures from world mythology. The generator uses these titles for its summons.
Why is there a Cid in every Final Fantasy?
A character named Cid appears in nearly every main game, usually as an engineer or airship pilot. It is a running tradition dating back to Final Fantasy II. Cid appears in the generator's lists because it is part of the series' flavour.
Can I use these for a Final Fantasy XIV character?
Many of the names fit, especially the Hyur and Elezen styles. FFXIV has its own rules for each race, so a Miqo'te or Roegadyn might need a different pattern, but the hero names work well for most characters and for roleplay.
