How the Homebrew Class Name Generator works
A homebrew class name generator for original RPG class and job names. Whether you are writing a homebrew class for a tabletop game, designing jobs for a video game or building a new world, a good class name tells players what the class does in one word. Pick a role and generate an original class.
How the homebrew class name generator works
Each role has its own naming style. Martial classes join a weapon or armour word with a word for duty, Shieldwright or Pikesworn. Arcane classes join a tool of magic with a verb, Inkweaver or Starbinder. Divine classes lean on bells, hymns, dawns and oaths, Bellwarden or Dawncaller. Nature classes pair a plant or animal with a caring word, Rootsinger or Hivewarden. Rogue classes sound sneaky, Shadeslip or Veilstalker. Support classes sound helpful, Chimewright or Field Surgeon. Hybrid classes mash two ideas together, Gunmage or Moonbrawler. The JRPG job mode builds colour jobs, Violet Mage or Jade Lancer.
Naming by what the class does
Players should guess the job from the name alone. A Lockbreaker opens doors, a Mender heals and a Stormlancer fights with lightning and a spear.
FAQ
How do I name a homebrew class?
Start with what the class does, then join a tool or theme word with an action word. A class that fights with books might be an Inkweaver, and one that tames bees might be a Hivewarden. Keep it to one or two words.
Should a class name be one word or two?
One compound word is easiest to say at the table and fits neatly on a character sheet. Two words work when the idea needs it, like Field Surgeon, but try to keep class names short and easy to remember.
What are JRPG colour jobs?
Many Japanese RPGs name magic jobs after colours, where each colour hints at a school of magic. The JRPG job mode uses fresh colours like Amber and Indigo, so you can build your own colour system with original rules.
Can I use these names in my game?
Yes. The names are original and free to use in homebrew tabletop classes, video game job systems, fantasy novels and worldbuilding projects. Mix modes to create hybrid ideas, or use a name as the spark for a whole new class.
