Mount and Blade is a medieval sandbox where you start as a lone rider, build a warband and found a clan that can one day rule a kingdom. Pick a culture type and generate a character name, a clan name or a name for your mercenary company.
How the Mount and Blade name generator works
Each culture type draws on a real medieval world. Western knights use Norman French names, Tancred of Castelmar. Northern boyars use Slavic names and surnames, Yaroslav Kamenev. Desert clans use Arabic names with ibn and Banu, Faris ibn Murad. Steppe khans use Turkic and Mongol names with a rank or epithet, Batu Noyan. Highland tribes use Welsh names with ap, meaning son of, Owain ap Madog. The fading empire uses Roman names, Aurelian Severan. The Clan mode builds a family banner name, and the Warband mode names your mercenary company, like the Free Lances or the Hundred Sellswords.
Culture types, not factions
The generator describes each culture by type, so all names are original. Map each type to the faction your character belongs to.

FAQ
How do I name my Bannerlord clan?
A clan name can be a family name, like Clan Oakshield, or an emblem, like the Iron Hawks. Choose something that matches your banner and culture, since the clan name appears on every fief, party and army you lead across the map.
How do I name a mercenary warband?
Pair a bold adjective with a word for a group of soldiers, like the Free Lances or the Crimson Riders. A number, as in the Hundred Sellswords, also works well and makes the company sound battle-tested and famous.
Why do highland names use ap?
Ap is the Welsh word for son of, so Owain ap Madog means Owain son of Madog. Highland tribes in the generator are inspired by early medieval Wales, so they use this old naming style instead of surnames.
Can I use these names in other medieval games?
Yes. The names are original and fit any medieval sandbox, strategy game or tabletop campaign with lords, clans and mercenary bands from different cultures, as well as historical fiction set across Europe, the steppe and the desert.
