How the Octopath Traveler Name Generator works

An Octopath Traveler name generator for traveller names by job and hometown. Octopath Traveler follows eight travellers with eight different jobs, each from a different region with its own culture and naming style. Pick a job, from knight to cleric, and generate a name for your own traveller, or a hometown to start their story.

How the Octopath Traveler name generator works

Each job has a naming style that fits its region and life. Knights get sturdy Germanic names and castle surnames, Hartwin Graufels. Scholars get long Latin and French names, Cornelius Merriwether. Merchants get cheerful short names and trade surnames, Pippa Pennywhistle. Dancers get a single elegant stage name, Isadora. Healers get herb names and village surnames, Tansy Mossgrove. Thieves go by one short, sharp alias, Rook. Hunters from the snowy north get Finnish and Nordic names, Sakari or Einar. Clerics get saintly French names and church surnames, Celestine Saintclair. The Hometown mode names the town where each story begins.

    Eight jobs, eight regions

Jobs here are the common RPG roles, so every name is original. Match each traveller to a region of your own map.

    FAQ

How do I name an Octopath Traveler OC?

Pick the job first, then choose a name that fits the region the job comes from. A northern hunter should sound Finnish or Nordic, while a scholar from a grand city should sound Latin or French, so the name hints at their home.

Why do dancers and thieves have one name?

Dancers perform under a single stage name, and thieves hide their real names behind one short alias. A single name makes both feel mysterious and different from the knights and scholars, who carry proud family names.

What is the Hometown mode for?

Every traveller starts their story in a hometown, so the Hometown mode names that starting place, like Frostreach or Sunmere. Use it to build the eight towns on your map, one for each traveller and job.

Can I use these names in other games?

Yes. The names are original and fit any JRPG, pixel-art RPG or tabletop campaign with a party of travellers from different jobs and regions, as well as fan games and stories that follow several heroes on separate journeys.
