How the Pathfinder Human Name Generator works

A Pathfinder human name generator sorted by Golarion ethnicity. Humans on Golarion come from many different cultures, and a name tells everyone where a character comes from. Choose Chelaxian, Kellid, Taldan, Ulfen, Varisian, Vudrani, Garundi, Keleshite, Mwangi, Shoanti or Tian and generate names in that style.

How the Pathfinder human name generator works

Each ethnicity draws on a real-world naming tradition. Chelaxian names are Italian-sounding and aristocratic, suited to a devil-bound empire. Taldan names are grand and Roman-Byzantine, often with two given names. Ulfen names are Norse, with patronymics and bold bynames. Kellid names are short and hard, with a hunter's epithet. Varisian names are Romanian and travel with a caravan. Vudrani names draw on South Asia, Garundi on ancient Egypt and North Africa, Keleshite on Persia and Arabia, Mwangi on West and East Africa, Shoanti on desert clan names and Tian on East Asia.

    Mixing cultures

Golarion is a crossroads, so a character with a Varisian given name and a Chelaxian surname tells a story about their family. Mix and match the styles for characters with mixed heritage.

    FAQ

What do Chelaxian names sound like?

Chelaxian names sound Italian and aristocratic, often with a noble title. Names like Lucrezia Morvaine or Belisario Vessano suit an empire of scheming nobles and devil-binding contracts.

    How are Ulfen names built?

Ulfen names follow Norse tradition. A given name is followed by a patronymic, the father's name plus son or dottir, or by a byname describing the person, like the Oar-Breaker.

Are these real names from the setting?

No. The styles follow the ethnicities of the setting, but every name comes from original lists and real-world naming traditions. None are copied from published characters.

Can I use these for other fantasy worlds?

Yes. Each style is based on real naming traditions, so you can use them in any fantasy world with Italian-style empires, Norse raiders, desert clans or Eastern kingdoms.
