How the Plasmoid Name Generator works
A plasmoid name generator for D&D's ooze folk, the shapeless, amorphous travellers of Spelljammer. Plasmoids have no mouths in the usual sense, so their own names are gloopy sounds. Many also borrow a name from another species they admire, or answer to a nickname crewmates gave them. Pick a kind.
How the plasmoid name generator works
Plasmoids are living ooze with a curious, gentle outlook, and they speak by vibrating their bodies. The Sound name mode builds names from wet, bubbling syllables like Blup and Squel, the sort of noise a plasmoid might make to introduce itself. Borrowed names are ordinary names a plasmoid has picked up from humans, elves or dwarves, sometimes with an honest description of its shape. Nicknames are affectionate, descriptive tags that a ship's crew might give a friendly blob. All three suit the slightly comic, slightly alien tone of plasmoid characters.
Plasmoid characters
Plasmoids are strange but usually kind. A borrowed name played completely straight, like Sir Hubert, is funny in the right way, and a sound name lets the table enjoy saying it.

FAQ
What do plasmoid names sound like?
Wet and bubbly. Their own names are made of sounds like blup, gloop, squel and plip, the noises a body of ooze makes when it moves or talks. They are fun to say out loud. Use the Sound name mode for a plasmoid's own name in its own language.
Why would a plasmoid borrow a name?
Plasmoid names are hard for other species to say, and plasmoids are curious about the people they meet. Many adopt a common name from a species they like, often without quite understanding it, which is where a plasmoid called Captain or Sir Hubert comes from. The mismatch is part of the charm.
What nicknames suit a plasmoid?
Descriptive, affectionate ones about their shape and texture: Little Jelly, Shiny Bubble, Wobbly Glob. These are the names a crew or party gives a plasmoid, and many plasmoids adopt them happily. Use them for friendly NPCs or for a plasmoid who has become part of a ship's family.
Can I use these names for other oozes?
For friendly oozes and slime characters, yes. For monstrous oozes like gelatinous cubes and black puddings, the Nickname mode gives good sarcastic names for a dungeon's resident blob. Sound names suit any intelligent ooze creature in a homebrew world.
