How the RPG Deity Name Generator works

A RPG deity name generator organised by cleric domain. Pick Life, War, Tempest, Trickery or any of twelve domains and get a god's name with a divine title or a holy symbol that suits it. Build a homebrew pantheon for your world, or give your cleric a patron that nobody at the table has heard of.

How the RPG deity name generator works

In D&D, a cleric's powers come from a domain, and every god in a pantheon usually holds one or more. This generator starts from the domain. Choose one and each name comes with a title or epithet that belongs to that area, such as Thunder Lord for Tempest or the Laughing Mask for Trickery. The Name with symbol mode adds a holy symbol, which your cleric can wear and your players can recognise on temple doors. Deity names are built from old, weighty syllables so they sound like they have been prayed to for centuries.

    Building a pantheon

Roll once for each domain you want in your world, keep the best, then decide which gods are allies and which are rivals. A small pantheon of six to eight gods is usually enough for a campaign, and domain overlaps make good religious conflict.

    FAQ

Which domains does the generator cover?

Twelve cleric domains: Life, Light, War, Death, Knowledge, Nature, Tempest, Trickery, Forge, Grave, Order and Arcana. Each has its own titles, epithets and holy symbols. Pick Any to mix them for a full pantheon in one click, or pick one domain for a single cleric's patron.

How do I give my cleric a homebrew god?

Pick the cleric's domain, roll until a name and title feel right, and switch to Name with symbol to get a holy symbol. Tell your game master, who will probably be delighted to have a new god to weave into the world. A homebrew god also avoids any clash with official setting lore.

Can one god have more than one domain?

Yes. Many D&D gods cover two or three domains, such as a god of both war and forge. Roll names in each domain and combine the titles you like, or use a single name with titles from two domains. The generator gives you one domain at a time so you can mix freely.

How is this different from the fantasy deity generator?

The fantasy deity generator in the fantasy section makes gods, goddesses, dark gods, religions and cults for any fantasy world. This page is built for D&D specifically and organises gods by cleric domain, with holy symbols, so it fits the way D&D characters choose a god.
