How the Villain Name Generator works
A villain name generator for your campaign's big bad evil guy. Choose a tyrant, necromancer, cult leader, warlord or schemer, and each name arrives with a title that tells the players exactly how worried they should be. A good BBEG name is one the party learns to say through gritted teeth.
How the villain name generator works
The best D&D villains are known by their titles as much as their names. This generator pairs a dark, memorable name with a title chosen for the villain's type. Tyrants get crowns and cruel epithets, necromancers get grave-and-bone titles, cult leaders get a rank and a strange god, warlords get bloody nicknames, and schemers get the velvet-glove titles of courtly manipulators. The names use hard consonants and dark vowels so they sound menacing even without the title.
Naming a BBEG
Players usually hear a villain's title before they learn the name. Let rumours spread the title early, save the true name for a reveal, and your villain will feel bigger than any single encounter.

FAQ
What makes a good BBEG name?
It should be easy to say, hard to forget and a little ominous. Two or three syllables with hard sounds like k, v, z and dr work well. A title adds menace and tells players what kind of threat they face. The generator gives you both in one go.
Should my villain have a title?
Almost always. A title lets NPCs refer to the villain without naming them, which builds dread, and it gives the players a quick way to remember who they are fighting. The Pale, the Iron Tyrant or the Velvet Knife each tells a story in two or three words.
What villain types are included?
Tyrants, necromancers, cult leaders, warlords and schemers. Those five cover most classic fantasy villains. For fiendish villains, the demon and devil name generators in the fantasy section are better, and the lich generator covers undead archmages.
How do I name the villain's lieutenants?
Use the same page with a different villain type, so the tyrant's general is a warlord and the cult's enforcer a necromancer. Giving lieutenants their own titles makes the villain's organisation feel real and gives the party a ladder of foes to climb.
