How the Warforged Name Generator works
A warforged name generator for Eberron's living constructs. Warforged were built as soldiers for the Last War, so many have three names: the designation stamped on them at the forge, the nickname their squad gave them, and the name they picked for themselves once the war ended. Pick one, or generate all three for the same character.
How the warforged name generator works
Warforged were made in the creation forges of House Cannith to fight in the Last War, and most started life with a serial designation, letters and a number, perhaps with the forge that built them. Soldiers gave them nicknames, usually a single word about their role or their build: Anvil, Bulwark, Lantern. Since the war ended and the warforged were declared free people, many have chosen a name for the first time. Chosen names are often an ordinary word that means something to them, a virtue, an object, a job, and a warforged may explain its choice with great seriousness.
Warforged names outside Eberron
In other worlds, the same ideas work for any made being: a golem that woke up, a clockwork servant or a war machine. Keep the designation for the cold, military feel, or the chosen name for a construct looking for a self.

FAQ
What do warforged call themselves?
Many use the nickname they were given in the war, because it is what their comrades called them. Others choose a new name, often a single meaningful word like Pilgrim or Mercy. Some keep their designation as a reminder of where they came from. All three are valid, and the choice says a lot about the character.
What is a good warforged name for a player character?
A single word with a story behind it. Generate a chosen name and ask your character why it chose that word. A warforged named Ledger might have been a quartermaster; one named Sparrow might have seen one on a battlefield. The explanation is instant roleplay.
Do warforged have gender?
Warforged are built without sex, and many do not think of themselves as having a gender, though some choose one. The names on this page are all neutral single words and designations, so they work for any warforged however they identify. Use pronouns that fit your character.
What should a warforged designation look like?
Letters followed by a number, sometimes with the forge. It should feel like a stamp on a piece of military equipment. The generator uses short letter codes with numbers, like BRK-44, and sometimes names the forge. Use it in the backstory even if the character goes by another name.
