How the 3D Book Cover Mockup works

This 3D book cover mockup wraps your design round a book. A cover design looks different once it is wrapped around a real paperback with a spine and a block of pages. Drop your front cover, add the spine and back if you have them, choose the trim size and the page count so the spine is the right thickness, pose the book and download a PNG at up to 4K. Everything renders in your browser; the artwork is never uploaded.

3D book cover mockup: cover, spine and back

Drop one image and it becomes the front cover. Drop a second and it becomes the spine, a third the back cover; or drop all three at once with filenames that sort in that order, such as 1-front, 2-spine, 3-back. Faces without artwork use the blank cover colour with a label, so a front-only mockup still looks like a finished book. Each image is stretched to fit its face: export the front and back at the trim proportion and the spine at the width the statistics line reports. Clear artwork removes all three.

Trim size and spine thickness

Trim size sets the width and height of the book from the common paperback formats: A5, the British B-format, US Trade, Royal and a square format for children's and photo books. Page count drives the spine thickness using a typical 80 gsm paper: roughly 0.05 mm per page plus the cover boards, so 300 pages give a spine of about 18 mm. The approximate spine width shown in the rail is a guide for sizing spine artwork; your printer's calculator has the exact figure for their paper.

Poses, finish and background

Standing shows the front cover and the spine three-quarter on, the classic bookshop shot. Leaning tilts the book back slightly as if propped against a wall. Lying flat lays it on the floor with the shadow beneath, useful for a top-down flat lay. Matte suits uncoated card and most literary covers; Glossy adds a sharper highlight for laminated covers. Studio, Light and White are backdrops; Transparent removes the backdrop and the floor shadow so the book can be placed on your own background in an image editor. Drag to orbit and scroll to zoom.

Downloading

Download PNG renders the view at preview size, twice preview size or 3840 pixels wide. Choose Transparent first for a cut-out with alpha that drops straight into a web page or a poster.

What it is not

This is a clean proportional render, not a photographic simulation. There is no page curl, cover bend or paper texture. It is meant for author websites, retailer listings, social posts and pitching a design, where a tidy honest render is what is wanted.

Privacy

Images are read from disk into your graphics card's memory and rendered locally. Nothing is uploaded and the page works offline once loaded.

FAQ

What size should the cover image be?

Any resolution works, but the aspect ratio should match the trim size, for example 148:210 for A5. A 1600 × 2400 pixel JPEG or PNG, the size most ebook stores ask for, is plenty for a sharp 4K render.

How do I add a spine and back cover?

Drop the spine image after the front cover, then the back, or drop all three files together named so they sort front, spine, back. The spine image should be tall and narrow at the spine width shown in the statistics; if you do not have one the spine is filled with the blank colour.

How is the spine thickness worked out?

From the page count at about 0.05 mm per page for standard 80 gsm book paper, plus a few millimetres for the cover. It is a visual approximation for the mockup; use your printer's spine calculator for the real cover template.

Can I get a transparent PNG?

Yes. Select Transparent in the background menu and the download is a PNG with an alpha channel and no floor shadow, so the book can be composited onto any background.
