How the Lower Third Maker works
This lower third maker adds a broadcast-style name strap to the bottom of your video: a name, an optional job title, and a short slide-in and slide-out animation. Choose a style and accent colour, set when it appears and how long it stays, and download the finished clip with its original sound.
What a lower third maker is for
A lower third is the caption that introduces a speaker in interviews, news reports, podcasts, webinars and YouTube videos. It sits in the bottom third of the frame so it never covers a face, and it stays on screen just long enough to read, usually four to six seconds.
Styles
Accent bar puts the text on a dark translucent panel with a coloured edge. Solid block uses a coloured name panel above a white title panel. News strap is a single coloured band with a thin rule underneath, like a TV news caption. Minimal underline shows plain white text with a short coloured line and a soft shadow, which suits clean, modern footage.
Timing
The strap wipes in over about half a second from the left, holds for the time you set, and wipes out again. Starting it a second or two after the speaker begins talking feels natural. For several speakers, run the video through the tool once per name with different start times.
Size and position
Name size is a percentage of the video height, so the same setting looks right on a phone clip or 4K footage. Titles are drawn at 60% of the name size. Keep long job titles short so the strap stays clear of the centre of the frame.
FAQ
Can I add more than one lower third to a video?
Yes. Add the first one, download the result, then load that file again and add the next name with a later start time. Each pass keeps the earlier straps because they are already part of the picture, so the order of the passes does not matter.
Is my video uploaded anywhere to add the lower third?
No. The video is played and recorded entirely inside your browser, with the name strap drawn onto each frame on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased interviews stay private.
Which fonts does the lower third use?
It uses your device's standard interface font, such as San Francisco on Apple devices or Segoe UI on Windows. These are clean, highly readable sans-serif fonts that look at home on broadcast-style captions and match the default look of most editing apps.
