How the Words From Letters works
This words from letters tool lists every word you can spell with the letters you type, longest first and grouped by length. Use each letter only as often as you have it, or let letters repeat for puzzles that allow it, and require certain letters to appear in every result.
How words from letters are found
The tool checks every word in a dictionary of about 173,000 against your letters. In the default mode a word fits if it needs no letter more times than you have it, so GARDEN gives DANGER, RANGED and GANDER but not GARDENER. Switch to repeats and any word built only from those letters fits, at any length.
Uses beyond word games
Teachers use it to build "how many words can you make" challenges from a long word such as CLASSROOM. Puzzle setters use it to check a letter set has enough answers before publishing. It also works for Boggle-style practice, finding every word hiding in a jumble of letters.
Narrowing the list
Raise the minimum length to skip short words. Add letters to "must contain" to keep only words that use them, which is useful when one letter is fixed, such as the centre of a word wheel or the letter on a square you want to reach.
FAQ
How many words can I make from my letters?
The count appears above the results. Seven common letters usually give between 50 and 200 words of three letters or more, while a long word like CONVERSATION gives well over a thousand.
What is the difference from the word unscrambler?
They search the same dictionary. This page is built for exploring a letter set with options like repeats and required letters. The unscrambler is quicker when you just want the answer to a jumbled word.
Are plurals and verb forms included?
Yes. The dictionary includes plurals, past tenses and other forms as separate words, as word games allow. Proper nouns, abbreviations and hyphenated words are not included.
