How the Colouring Page Maker works

This colouring page maker traces the outlines in a photo and redraws them as clean black lines on white paper. Turn a pet, a family photo or a favourite place into a printable page for children, classrooms or adult colouring.

How the colouring page maker works

The tool softens the photo to remove fine texture, then finds edges where brightness changes sharply. Those edges become black lines and everything else turns white, leaving open shapes that are ready to fill with pencils, crayons or paint.

Detail and sensitivity

Detail controls how much smoothing happens first. Low detail ignores grass, fur and wood grain for a simple page suited to young children. High detail keeps small features for older colourers. Line sensitivity decides how faint an edge can be and still get a line.

Line thickness and printing

Thicker lines are easier to colour inside and print boldly on cheap printers. Print on A4 or US Letter at full page size; the output is a plain PNG with a white background, so it uses very little ink.

Private by design

The page is made in your browser, and your photos are never uploaded.

FAQ

Which photos make the best colouring pages?

Photos with a clear subject, good lighting and a plain background work best. Close-ups of pets, toys, buildings and flowers give bold shapes. Busy scenes produce many small lines that are hard to colour.

How do I remove stray dots and specks?

Lower the detail setting to smooth the photo more, or reduce line sensitivity so only strong edges are drawn. Cropping away a busy background before converting also removes most of the clutter.

Is this the same as the photo to sketch tool?

No. The sketch tool keeps grey pencil shading for an artistic drawing. This tool outputs pure black lines on white with no shading, which is what you need for a page to colour in.

Can I use the pages in a classroom?

Yes. Pages made from your own photos are yours to print and share. Only use photos you took or have permission to use, especially when the page shows other people's children.
