How the Speech Bubble Maker works

This speech bubble maker adds comic-style speech, thought or shout bubbles with your own words to any photo. Point the tail at the speaker and the picture is ready for a group chat, a classroom slide or a social media post.

How to use the speech bubble maker

Choose a photo and type your text; press Enter for a new line. Place the bubble with the two centre sliders, then aim the tail at the speaker's mouth using the tail sliders. The bubble grows to fit the text, and the text size scales with the photo.

Speech, thought and shout

Speech is the classic rounded bubble with a pointed tail. Thought is a cloud with a trail of small circles leading to the thinker. Shout is a spiky burst for loud or surprised lines, best with short text in capitals.

Colours and readability

Black text on a white bubble is easiest to read. For a dark or night-time style, swap to a dark bubble with white text. Keep each bubble to a few short words so it stays legible on small phone screens.

Private by design

Bubbles are drawn in your browser, and the photo is never uploaded.

FAQ

Can I add more than one bubble?

The tool adds one bubble per pass. To add a second, download the result, load it back in and place the next bubble, repeating until every speaker has a line.

How do I point the tail at someone's mouth?

Set the tail sliders to the speaker's position as a percentage across and down the photo. For example, someone in the lower left third would be around 30% across and 70% down.

Which fonts does the bubble use?

It uses a bold, rounded comic-style font stack from your system, falling back to a standard sans serif. This keeps text readable without downloading fonts or sending your photo anywhere.

What is the difference between this and a meme generator?

A meme generator puts large captions at the top and bottom of an image. A speech bubble attaches words to a particular person or object in the picture, like a comic panel.
