How the Wordle Solver works
This Wordle solver takes the guesses you have made and the colours the game gave back, then lists every five-letter word that still fits. Words are ranked so the first one tests the most likely letters, making it a strong next guess when you are stuck.
How to enter clues in the Wordle solver
Type each guess on its own line, followed by a space and five letters for the colours: g for green, y for yellow and b for grey. So "crane bybbg" means C was grey, R yellow, A and N grey and E green. Leave the box empty to see the best opening words.
Repeated letters
Wordle colours repeated letters carefully, and so does the solver. If you guessed a word with two Ls and one came back yellow and the other grey, the answer has exactly one L. If both were yellow or green, it has at least two. This is where most hand-solving goes wrong.
How the next guess is chosen
Each remaining word gets a score: the share of remaining answers that contain each of its letters, added up across its distinct letters. A high score means the guess checks letters that appear in many candidates, so whatever colours come back, the list shrinks sharply.
FAQ
Does the solver know today's answer?
No. It only knows the clues you type and a dictionary of five-letter words. It narrows down what the answer could be, the same way you would, so it never spoils a puzzle you have not played.
Why are there more candidates than the official answer list?
The dictionary includes every valid five-letter word, while Wordle's answers are drawn from a shorter list of common words. Rare words appear in the results, but the common ones are usually the answer.
What is a good first word?
Words with five different common letters, such as SLATE, CRANE or ARISE, test the most ground in one go. Clear the box to see the solver's own ranking of opening words from the full dictionary.
