How the Pathfinder Name Generator works

A Pathfinder name generator for the most common ancestries. Pick human, elf, dwarf, gnome, halfling, goblin or leshy and get names that fit a classic fantasy world, or use the dedicated generators below for more detail on each ancestry, deities and towns.

How the Pathfinder name generator works

Each ancestry has its own sound. Humans get a first name and surname or a hometown. Elves get flowing two-part names, sometimes with a nature surname. Dwarves get strong, short names and a clan. Gnomes get bouncy, playful names and a whimsical surname. Halflings get homely names. Goblins get short, spiky names and a proud epithet. Leshies, the plant folk, get names taken from their plant and home.

    FAQ

What do Pathfinder names sound like?

Pathfinder uses classic fantasy naming, but each ancestry has a distinct feel. Humans vary by region, elves sound flowing and old, dwarves sound hard and short, and goblins sound silly and sharp.

    Are these official Pathfinder names?

No. Every name is original, built from syllables and words written for this site. They are designed to sound right in a Pathfinder game without copying any published character.

Can I use these in Pathfinder 2e?

Yes. The ancestries here match the common ancestries of the second edition, and names do not depend on rules, so they work equally well in first edition or any other fantasy system.

Which generator should I use for humans?

Use the dedicated human generator for the best results. It sorts names by ethnicity, so a character from a cold northern land sounds different from one from a hot southern city.
